In the last five years, DVD movie and player
sales have skyrocketed through the roof as the media format has quickly
taken over the video
market. In conjunction with the explosive growth of the DVD market,
video formats such as DivX and XviD took off as the Internet became the
place
to distribute content. With the massive amounts of media available
both offline and online, a need has slowly developed for home consumer
players
that can handle various video codecs. There have been a number of such
devices slowly being introduced over the past year or so. One new vendor
in this market is Lite-On with their LVD-2001 PhoMaster DVD player.
This consumer home player not only plays back DVD disks, but can handle
MPEG4
formats, play back MP3/WMA files and perform slide show duties with
digital photographs. I recently got a hold of one of these players for
my personal
use, so let’s take a look at what the device can do.
Packaging
The Lite-On packaging for the LVD-2001 is surprisingly thin when compared
to other vendors out there. At first, I was a little worried that the
player would be damaged during shipment but it appeared that there is
adequate protection for the device internally. Lite-On makes pretty efficient
use of the interior space. Here are some pictures of the packaging:
