1. Introduction
Does anyone remember TechXNY? It was a conference
held in New York City a few months back. No? I don't blame you. There
wasn't a whole lot going on during the show except for a few Mira devices
and some Tablet PC prototypes. Since the big boys all had fairly boring
booths, I had some extra time to browse through the exhibit floor and
one of the more interesting booths was a company that I had never heard
of before. The company was Listman
Home Technologies and the technology they were show casing was the
UnitedHome
software. The basic premise of their product was to do home automation
and control via your PC displayed on a TV screen. Did someone say a PC
connected to the TV? That's right - Listman is taking a gamble by creating
a software package targeting the HTPC audience. (Actually what caugh my
eye initially was the nice flat screenthatwas being shown at the exhibit)
Listman labels this category as HCPC which stands for Home Control PC.
After talking with a marketing person at the booth, I managed to get a
copy of the software from them. It's been over a month now and I've finally
gotten a chance to play around with their software. We'll be reviewing
a specific component of the UnitedHome product known as the TV Butler.
2. Company background
Listman Technologies is a company that is dedicated
towards delivery products for structured wiring and home automation. They
appear to work mostly with integrators, distributors, home technology
manufacturers and in general VARs. They appear to be a combination hardware/software
company aimed at linking the myriad of connections and devices that you
would see within a hom. If you want more information on Listman, please
feel free to call them directly at 1-866-LISTMAN or email them at sales@listmanhome.com.
Their website is located at www.listmanhome.com
