Benchmarks

We compared the MSI MEGA 180 against three other systems that we recently reviewed here at WhiningDog. The systems are as follows:

System MSI MEGA 180 Shuttle SN85G4 Intel D845GERG2 Insight P4-ITX

Application Benchmarks - Multimedia Content Creation 2004

Higher scores are better. The MSI MEGA 180 performs on par with the Intel 3.06GHz Pentium 4 processor running at 533MHz FSB on the P4-ITX boardin the new Multimedia Content Creation 2004 benchmarks. However, the P4-ITX is a poor performer compared to the Intel D845GERG2 and you can see this in the 2003 benchmarks. Overall, the Pentium 4 processor will normally outperform the Athlon XP 3000+ on multimedia applications due to the optimized code base of many of the applications in the test suites. Of course the Athlon 64 clearly kicks the older P4 CPU used here.

Application Benchmarks - Multimedia Content Creation 2003

Higher scores are better.

Application Benchmarks - Business Winstone 2004

Higher scores are better. The MSI MEGA 180 actually performs comparably with the Shuttle SN85G4 but this isn't apparent in the older 2002 benchmark below.

Application Benchmarks - Business Winstone 2002

Higher scores are better. The MSI MEGA 180 outperforms both Intel systems and trails only the faster Athlon 64 system.

CPU Benchmark - POVBench 3.5

Lower scores are better. The AMD CPUs seem to suffer when compared to the P4 systems here. Why you might ask? The HT enabled Pentium 4's show their strengths here.

CPU Benchmark - ScienceMark 2 Beta

Lower scores are better. The MSI MEGA 180 generally outperforms the Pentium 4 systems here.

CPU Benchmark - Sandra 2004 CPU Arithmetic

Higher scores are better. HT enabled Pentium 4's show their stuff.

CPU Benchmark - Sandra 2004 CPU Multimedia

Higher scores are better. Again, HT enabled Pentium 4's are speeding past the AMD processors.
