Packaging
The XP4 comes in a simple white cardboard white
box with a handle on top for easy handling. The system is wrapped in some
basic Styrofoam pieces for shock absorption. You get the case, a heatsink,
and a small cardboard box full of accessories. Here are pictures of the
box and it’s components.

Closer look |
The XP4 uses the Intel 845GV which supports only
up to DDR266 memory. Another major difference between the 845GV and the
bigger sibling – the 845GE – is the core graphics speed. The
845GV is at 200MHz – slower than the 266 core frequency of the 845GE
which results in lower graphics scores later on in the benchmarks.
It’s fairly clear that the XP4 is a low budget
product – the included manual is rather skimpy. Don’t expect
in-depth coverage into the system with this manual. It comes with just
enough information to get you going.
IWILL only includes one IDE cable even though you’ll
realistically need two IDE cables. Luckily we’ve got a ton of IDE
cables here at home but it’s something to remember.
Though the system supports USB 2.0, you will not
find any IEEE 1394/FireWire support. This is rather unfortunate since
in order to add FireWire support you’ll need to use a PCI card.
Though there are more and more products supporting USB 2.0, you can not
use devices such as digital camcorders with the XP4 without adding FireWire
support. I for one wouldn’t be able to use the iPod – truly
a real bummer.
