A cube here, a cube there, a cube everywhere I say.
OK that was fairly lame on my part but there is a pattern here –
there are more and more Small Form Factor (SFF) PCs coming out and they
are generally all cubed shaped. This basic design has personified the
Small Form Factor PC world for the last year or so. A few vendors have
strayed from this design by coming out with slim rectangular designs but
ultimately it comes back to the basic cube design. The only real commercial
innovative design still resides with the Apple iMac. All other innovative
and quite frankly cool designs normally come from case modifications designed
by Do-It-Yourself (DIY) enthusiasts. Not to be outdone by Shuttle, IWILL
has entered into the SFF fray with the XP4 system which it dubs as the
“Cute Cubed P4 System”. Cute? Hmm not sure about that. Cubed?
Definitely. With Shuttle dominating most of the SFF sales out there, it’s
wonderful to see more competition enter this arena. The XP4 has an industrial
look and feel and is rather reminiscent of the early Shuttle SV24 case
designs. What is different with the XP4 is the pricing scheme and target
audience: IWILL has decided to enter the SFF fray by hitting low on the
price curve while providing support for the Intel Pentium 4 processor
and supporting enough features for most users out there. How will does
the XP4 fare? Read on and find out.
