Introduction
I’ll be honest – I love the current
crop of Intel E7505 based motherboards that are out there but do they
have to be so large in size? Granted their target audience is for the
server/high end workstation market but wouldn’t it would be nice
if there were ATX based dual processor boards. Well, in fact there are
indeed ATX boards out there. In my quest for a new dual XEON processor
system, I came across the Supermicro X5DAL-TG2 motherboard (what’s
up with the naming convention?). This board provides dual XEON support
and is designed around an ATX form factor which is great for those of
you looking to save some real estate space. Are there compromises to be
made in going to a smaller form factor? Of course. Let’s take a
look at what they might be and see what the X5DAL-TG2 has to offer. Keep
in mind that there are other ATX based 7505 boards out there and we’ll
attempt to look at another one later on in the month.
