Specifications
I figured that it would be a good idea to describe
the specifications of the board before we actually start looking at the
board physically. The EPIA M motherboard can sport either an embedded
VIA Eden ESP processor core or a C3 E-Series processor. The C3 CPU will
be the version that most of you will want to acquire for the more intensive
applications available out there. All told, the platform is built around
the premise of delivering a compact, low power solution for digital multimedia
applications.
Outside of the processor, the core of the board
is the VIA Apollo CLE266 chipset. This chipset supports onboard MPEG2
decoding and integrated 2D/3D graphics. The chipset supports DDR266 (PC
2100) memory and ATA 133 hard disk drives. The onboard VT1616 chip provides
6 channel AC 97 audio. But wait – that’s not all (Sounds like
an infomercial huh?)! You also get a plethora of outputs on the rear of
the motherboard including support for USB 2.0 and FireWire. Let’s
