Introduction
As the home computer network market grows, there is an increasing need for centralized storage. Up until recently, having centralized storage usually meant setting up another PC to actually serve the data to all of your various devices on your network. There were of course network attached storage (NAS) systems out on the market but these were normally relegated to businesses due to their high costs. There was still a need for inexpensive storage devices that would be accessible from a wide range of systems. To that end, Ximeta Technology introduced a new storage device known as the NetDisk. The NetDisk is what Ximeta calls a Network Direct Attached Storage device (NDAS). An NDAS is a hard drive that uses either USB or Ethernet as an interface to your system. There is no need for a dedicated computer system to manage this hard drive. The drive stands alone on the network and services requests from a variety of systems or can directly connect to a PC via the USB interface. Why even consider using a device like the NetDisk? Namely - convenience and lower costs! Let's take a look at the Ximeta 80GB NetDisk and see if fills a void in the home network market.
