Introduction
Do you long to upgrade your dull beige computer to one of those newfangled aluminum cases with the bright lights and see-through side window but just could not justify the purchase price? Do you want something modern looking yet not overly over-the-top? Xoxide.com sent us the V-Tech AP107KL and it may just solve your need for good looks at a modest cost.
Packaging
We received the V-Tech box from Xoxide.com double boxed inside another cardboard box. Two 3/8 to ½ inch thick Styrofoam end-caps held the case in place. Compared to other cases, the Styrofoam seemed fairly thin. Furthermore we were concerned with the lack of spacing between the box and the case. 3/8 inch is not a lot of space and any intrusion into the box during transit would easily cross that gap and damage the case. The double-boxed shipping method from Xoxide provided an extra level security and is a welcomed sight. Inside, the V-Tech case was not wrapped in a clear plastic bag. The front panel and both the inside and outside of the side window had plastic sheeting protecting the acrylic surfaces from scratches.
The package arrived with:
- The case
- A small cardboard box of miscellaneous hardware (four rubber snap-on feet, a bag of hardware, six loose screws, a speaker-on-a-connector, and a piece of paper with pin assignments for the front panel wiring).
Not included:
- A power supply was not included but an appropriate unit can be ordered at time of purchase for a modest fee.
- There was no user's manual (hardcopy or CD). An experienced user will have no problems with this case but a novice or those not mechanically savvy may get confused.
- The front panel I/O connectors allow for a single IEEE-1394 port. This port was not included in the review sample.
