We first looked into mobile racks back when I got
a hold of a low cost rack from CompUSA. Mobile racks/enclosures are great
for those who are constantly removing drives from their systems or changing
OS configurations etc. Being able to swap out an OS at will is invaluable
to many IT professionals, system builders, enthusiasts and quality assurance/validation
engineers. There's even a case for those who just want to secure that
hard drive in case someone manages to get near a system unattended. Today,
we'll get a chance to look over a mobile rack from Lian Li. You know them
for cases but do you know that they also make a slew of accessories? The
Lian
Li RH-600 Mobile Rack is one slick looking component that may be a
perfect fit for those who have aluminum cases and want a removable hard
drive solution.
1.1 The box and contents
The RH-600 came to us all the way from Taiwan and
we'd like to thank the people at Lian Li for letting us evaluate the unit.
The minute you lift up the blue box, you'll realize that you're dealing
with a well built device. Having previously played around with the CompUSA
hard drive enclosure, the Lian Li feels like a tank. For those of you
who remember Transformers - it's something like comparing the original
Transformers toys that were made in die cast metal to the plastic ones
made today (yuck). I think you get my drift when I say that the RH-600
is solid.

Opening the box up, you'll see the mobile rack and
some instructions from Lian Li on how to install the drive. I was actually
quite impressed with the installation manual. The manual contains very
clear instructions and well thought out diagrams. The RH-600 should be
cinch to put together for anyone unfamiliar with mobile racks (not that
there's a lot to know but hey you never know if someone needs some help).

1.2 Contents
The box contains the following:
1. RH-600 Mobile Rack supporting up to ATA/133
2. Screws for mounting the hard drive to the rack and for the rack to
a system
3. 2 keys
4. Installation Manual
One thing that was included in my packaging
that was not mentioned in the manual was the inclusion of two screw drivers.
Though small, they are definitely a welcome sight to see in case you don't
have a toolbox nearby (though I can't imagine why you wouldn't have a
toolbox near you when you're working with a computer).
