Introduction

| Manufacturer | Lian

| Price | ~110
- ~140 US dollars | Doesn't it seem
like most systems out there these days are based on some sort of tower design?
It wasn't always like this of course. The desktop design ruled the market for
many years. However, the tower design gave us much more flexibility. Whether it
was because it took up less real estate space, or you could add more storage space
internally, the tower design eventually took over the PC market. However as PC
and entertainment convergence slowly continued, many found that the desktop style
design was useful for certain type of applications besides the office desktop.
In the niche HTPC market, desktop style PC's found a new home as a perfect case
design for an A/V rack. Keeping that thought in mind, I looked forward to reviewing
the Lian Li PC-9300 desktop aluminum case. Not only was this a desktop design,
but it was an aluminum case which made it easy to lift and maneuver. It seemed
to me the perfect type of case for those interested in putting together an HTPC
system for their stereo rack. So with that in mind, let's take a look at the PC-9300.

2.2 Packaging
I
received the PC-9300 all the way from Taiwan and it arrived in perfect condition
from the FedEx delivery. The case itself is nicely packaged with Styrofoam and
wrapped in plastic. All the cables and accessories for the case were stored within
the case. Lian Li packaged a diagram showing the user how to open up the case
and how to install drives into the system. One funny aspect was that the directions
on how to open the case was well.. inside the case. | | Opening
