Physical Overview
The package comes with two discs – one for your PC and one for your Xbox. There's also an infrared receiver for your Xbox and a remote control.
For those of you who own the DVD kit for the Xbox, you'll notice that the receiver looks identical. Well that's because it is! Microsoft chose to use the same receiver for the MCX remote control which means that the remote control is incompatible with the standard MCE PC remote control. Don't lose your MCX for Xbox remote control because you'll need to purchase a whole new kit if you do so.
Now back to the infrared receiver – if you had already purchased the Xbox DVD kit, well – it's now pretty much useless because the Media Center Extender for the Xbox also provides DVD playback capabilities to your Xbox.
Here are a couple of shots of the included remote control.
Hmm – it sure does look like the Windows Media Center remote control doesn't it? Let's compare the two:
The Media Center Extender remote control has an extra set of button along the top of the remote. These buttons are as follows:
My TV, My Music, My Pictures, and My Videos
These shortcut buttons are handy since there is usually a slight lag in using the on screen menus.
