The PMC User Interface
Let's spend some time on the Portable Media Center User Interface (UI). The UI is essentially a simplified version of the Windows Media Center UI. When you press the green button (E-Home button) on the front of the YH-999, you'll get the following screen:
There are five major selections you can choose from:
- My TV
- My Music
- My Pictures
- My Videos
- Settings
My TV
The My TV UI allows you to see all the different television recordings you synchronized with your Portable Media Center . It is important to note that this section really only applies to users of the Windows Media Center OS. If you are using a standard Windows XP system with WMP 10, then your videos will be stored in the My Videos section.
The top of the UI allows you to sort your TV shows in a variety of ways. These include:
New - sort through your televison collection by looking at the newest shows
Sort By Date - sort through the collection via the date of the show recorded
Sort By Name - sort through the collection via the names of the shows recorded
When you select a television show to watch, you can use the various controls on the front panel of the device to control the playback of the show. One of the benefits of using the Windows Media Center Edition PC is the ability for the OS to synchronize television shows to your device but also information about the recorded television shows.
My Music
The My Music UI allows you to see all the various music files that are stored on your PMC. The UI allows you to sort your collection using the following methods:
New - all the newest music stored onto your PMC
Albums - allows you to sort through your collection via Album names
Artists - allows you to sort through your collection via the Artist names
Playlists - select songs to playback via pre-made playlists
Songs - Sort through your collection by going through your entire song list
Genres - Sort through your collection by looking at the song genres
As with many portable audio players, it can be tedious when you're trying to sort through large collections of files. The PMC is no different in this front. One of the nice features of the PMC UI is album cover art for your music collections. When you're scrolling through your music collection, the album covers disappear to speed up the scrolling speeds.
Once you've selected an album or song to play back, you will get something similar to this:
You can scroll through a variety of UI displays while you're listening to your music. Here is a sampling of the displays:
My Pictures
As with the other sections, you can sort through your pictures using the following sorting methods:
Sort by name - sort through your picture collections by the image names
Sort by date - sort through your collection using the file date
New - sort through your collection by looking at the newest pictures
There's not much to say about the Picture section. You can create a slideshow for your image collections and also play back music in the background while the slideshow plays back.
My Videos
The My Videos section has the following sorting methods:
Sort by name - sort through your videos using the names of the files
Sort by date - sort through your videos via the video date
New - look at only the newest sync'd videos
