Installation

The instructions for the GII are pretty comprehensive. The first thing that I did with the headset was charge it up. The GII adapter has a green LED on it to let you know if it's plugged in and powered up. The adapter is rectangular in shape which is great if you have a power strip that has horizontal plugs, unfortunately my power strip happens to have vertical plugs so it ended up taking up two slots. The adapter is not polarized, so both plugs are the same size which is nice if you need to switch the direction of plugging in. I could have plugged it in at the end of the power strip but the computer is plugged in there and I was too lazy shutdown to reorganize...

The adapter plugs into the back of the GII through a tiny power slot. Immediately the GII LED lights up red to indicate that the unit is charging. When the charge ws complete (approximately 3 hours), the LED will change to green to indicate it's ready for use.

Once fully charged it was time to mate the headset to my Bluetooth-enabled phone. The GII has three buttons on it. Two are for volume control and one LED-lit button serves multiple functions. This particular button acts as the power button, the voice dial button, the answer button and the pairing button. Bluetake uses a clever combination of LED colors to indicate the current status of the unit.

I tried pairing the Bluetake with my Sony Ericsson Z600 cell phone which is a Bluetooth-enabled GSM phone. To pair the GII, you need to hold the power button for approximately 5 seconds until the headset LED flashes blue and red. Once this happens, the GII is ready to pair with a phone. The Z600 has a Connection menu that has a Bluetooth submenu. I was able to easily set up the Z600 to use the GII to be the hands free unit for the phone. Once the Z600 was connected to the GII the Bluetake headset began to flash blue.

I also tried to pair the GII with my Apple Powerbook G4 (15" Al). Launching the Bluetooth setup assistant application I tried to connect to the GII unsuccessfully. The headset was not being discovered by the application. The Z600 was instead discovered under the "Mobile Phones" category of the Setup Assistant.
