Introduction
Over the last few years, we’ve seen an ever increasing line of
Pocket PC devices from a variety of vendors. Although HP still dominates
the high end Pocket PC market, many other companies have slowly made
inroads into the general consumer market by offering quality Pocket PC
PDAs at lower price points. ViewSonic’s first Pocket PC PDA – the
V35 – was a well received PDA that competed fairly well with the
rest of the Pocket PC market. The V35 was in many ways a no-frills PDA
and offered the basics that most users would need. ViewSonic has since
released a beefier version known as the Pocket PC V37. If you happened
to have been an owner of the Microsoft Visual Studio.NET 2003 Development
Platform, then you had the chance to receive a free ViewSonic V37 PDA
this year from Microsoft. I enrolled in the offer earlier this year and
received my V37 a few weeks ago. So today we’re going to look at
the ViewSonic V37 and see whether this PDA is a worthy successor to the
V35. Let’s take a look shall we?
Packaging
The ViewSonic Pocket PC V37 comes in a small red cardboard box. Here
are some pictures taken of the packaging.
As you can see, ViewSonic doesn’t waste too much interior space
in packaging up the V37. I’m always appreciative of companies that
make efficient use of packaging.
The V37 comes with all the basic accessories to get you started. This
includes an AC adapter, a desktop cradle, the V37 PDA itself, software
(and a software development kit for the developer in you), manuals and
various other brochures.
