I’m currently writing this review while sitting
at the Long Beach, CA airport and with me are a variety of devices laid
out across my chair and lap. Aside from the IBM Thinkpad T21 laptop that
I’m typing this review on, I have my trusty Apple iPod playing tunes
into my ear and my new Hewlett-Packard iPAQ h1910 PDA. This was the first
major trial of my h1910 and I must say that I was extremely pleased with
this small device. It replaces my venerable Compaq iPAQ H3635 model which
I had for a number of years. I’ve personally gone through a number
of PDA’s over the last seven years. Like many users out there, I
started out with the U.S. Robotics (soon to be 3COM and then Palm) Palm
Pilot Professional. Soon afterwards I replaced the Pro with the Palm V
handheld which was quickly sold in favor of the Compaq iPAQ PDA using
the Microsoft Pocket PC Operating System. The h1910 is actually an interesting
departure in my handlheld upgrade path. In many ways, this PDA isn’t
so much a performance upgrade as much as a PDA lifestyle change from the
older line of iPAQs and the current high end iPAQs (H5450) from Hewlett
Packard. (In case some of you have just woken up from a long sleep, Hewlett
Packard and Compaq merged a few years back!). Instead of obtaining a PDA
that was faster and more feature packed than the H3635, I opted for a
model which was smaller, sleeker and in many ways simpler in design and
features. HP opted to create a PDA that was a mixed bag of both innovative
and cost conscious features. Let’s check out this small beauty and
see what it has to offer shall we?
