For the last two weeks I had the opportunity to
take a vacation in the country of Japan. During this vacation, we went
to the cities of Hakkodate, Takayama, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Tokyo
– quite a whirl wind tour. Finally in the last few days of the trip,
I had the chance to visit the electronics districts of two major cities
– Osaka and Tokyo. For many of us in the US, we have no idea what
an electronics district is like until one visits the districts in Japan.
This was streets and streets of stores that sell nothing but electronic
goods ranging from appliances to TV’s to computers.
However it is true that in general most (if not
all) of the items sold in Japan can be had for lesser prices here in the
US. Thus I personally did not return with anything of interest though
I did need to purchase a 1 GB Microdrive for my camera. For computer enthusiasts
there’s nothing like walking the streets of these districts –
it’s akin to walking into a Fry’s electronics store and looking
at the rows and rows of motherboards and computer parts. However instead
of one large store, you find lots of small stores that sell all different
varieties of products. The following pages contain images of products
that I thought would be interesting to look at. It’s a mixture of
products that I saw while walking the streets of Japan. Enjoy!
